New Pastor Joins Drumcondra Seventh-day Adventist Church in Dublin
The Drumcondra Seventh-day Adventist Church in Dublin is delighted to welcome Pastor Maicol Cortes as its new pastor. With a heart for ministry and a passion for serving the community, Pastor Maicol joins the Irish Mission team, bringing with him a vision of faith, growth, and connection. He replaces Jefferson Melki, who now serves full-time as the Youth Sponsor for the Irish Mission.
A Passion for Ministry
In a recent interview, Pastor Maicol shared insights into his background, his journey of faith and his aspirations for his new role in Drumcondra. Originally from Chile, where he earned his degree in Theology, he has served as a chaplain and district pastor for six years. After he was ordained to the ministry he pursued further studies earning a Master’s degree in New Testament (AIIAS, Philippines), a Master’s in Jewish Studies (Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel), and a Master’s in Theology (Lorraine, France). Currently, he is completing his PhD at Trinity College Dublin.
When asked about what inspired him to be a pastor, he said that it was the profound change that God made in his life. “I wanted to help others experience the same transformation and find purpose in their faith”, he shared.
Pastor Maicol expressed his excitement about working with the diverse congregation in Dublin. “I believe Drumcondra has incredible potential, and from the very first moment, I felt embraced by the congregation. My vision is to grow together as a church, spiritually and as a community,” he shared. “I love visiting and engaging with people, and I hope to leave a lasting impact on the heart of the church”
Pastor Maicol’s Family Life and Hobbies

Pastor Maicol is married to Leslie, and together they have a 10-year-old son, Julian. His favourite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9, which says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” He shared that this verse perfectly encapsulates his life and journey, serving as a constant source of strength and encouragement, reminding him to trust in God’s presence and guidance.
While Pastor Maicol doesn’t have a particular hobby, he loves studying the Bible, especially improving his Hebrew skills. He enjoys spending time with his son, Julian, watching football and playing video games together. Additionally, he makes time for staying active and exercising.
