Navan Adventist Company Holds Second Camp-In in Wexford
The Navan Adventist Company held its second “Acampadentro” (Camp-In) in Wexford from July 10 to 12, bringing together members and friends for a weekend dedicated to worship, fellowship, and spiritual reflection. The event was held under the theme “Outside the Algorithm,” focusing on the growing challenge of protecting one’s attention in a world increasingly shaped by digital distractions.
Throughout the weekend, participants reflected on how modern algorithms are intentionally designed to capture and retain human attention. Messages and activities encouraged attendees to consider what may be competing with their devotion to God and how to cultivate a more intentional spiritual life.
In one of the presentations, Pastor Diogo drew a parallel between the theme and the biblical account of the Fall. Referring to Genesis 3, he highlighted that the enemy first sought to captivate Eve’s attention before leading her into temptation. “The battle in Eden began with the gaze,” he stated. “When Eve fixed her eyes on what pleased her, the enemy found an opening to plant doubt in her heart. What captures our attention often shapes the direction of our lives.” His message emphasized the importance of guarding the mind and choosing carefully what receives one’s focus.
Walter, director of the group, used a practical illustration to reinforce the same spiritual principle. He compared the relationship with God to a wireless connection: when many walls stand between a person and the router, the signal becomes weak. In the same way, he explained, barriers such as distractions, worries, and misplaced priorities can weaken one’s communion with God, making it essential to remove anything that hinders that connection.
In addition to the spiritual program, the weekend also provided moments of celebration and cultural exchange. One of the highlights was the Festival of Nations, during which participants dressed in traditional attire and shared typical foods representing their countries. The activity reflected the diversity of the Navan Adventist Company and strengthened the sense of unity among those present.
This year’s Camp-In also included an English-speaking audience, reflecting the growing interaction between the Portuguese-speaking community in Navan and English speakers. The bilingual participation contributed to a broader sense of fellowship and inclusion throughout the event.
Priscila, one of the organizers, expressed gratitude for the success of the gathering and noted that the Camp-In has become an important part of the company’s calendar. “The Camp-In is here to stay,” she said. “It will become a tradition in our company.”
