The 12th of October 2024 will always be remembered as a special Sabbath for the Drogheda Seventh-day Adventist Church.
On this day we were joined by “mother” Church Dublin West and the Letterkenny Adventist congregation as we celebrated our organisation service where we officially obtained church status.
The Drogheda Adventist Group was established in 2006 with a small core led by Eddy MacCullagh and has blossomed into a congregation of 22 members, and close to 50 regular attending members. Pastors who have shepherded this flock include Stephen Wilson, Douglas McCormac, Ben Pontanar, Dan Serb, and Ivan Petrovski.
Host Pastor, Damieon Lewis, predicted in his welcome address that the day would be a “bumper” experience, and it was! Among the highlights of the day were heart-stirring musical items rendered by the different Churches at the occasion and the introduction of our especially homegrown Drogheda Adventist Church choir. Honoured guests celebrated at the event were: Pastor Israel Williams, Eddy MacCullagh, Cairan Buggle, Lorna Downer Mc Hugh, Richard and Faith Zinyemba and many others. The spiritual message from Irish Mission President, Adam Keough, highlighted the beauty of relationship as a mark of a true Church of Christ. The “organising” of the Church was presided over by Pastor Ben Pontanar, Executive Secretary of the Irish Mission, and the entire assembly celebrated the new status of the Drogheda Seventh-day Adventist Church. This moment had been anticipated for 18 years making it a sentimental, emotional and joyous occasion.
In the words of sister Lorna: “God has planted a seed and when you plant a seed it goes deep into the soil and passes through all sorts of turmoil before it is sprouted”. Drogheda Seventh-day Adventist Church is blessed and grateful to have experienced this beautiful moment in history with everyone involved. We wish to thank the Irish Mission, all visiting Churches, friends and other guests, the Women's Ministry department, and everyone who contributed towards making this day a tremendous blessing. We continue to solicit your prayers for our Church.
