Movember Fundraising

Movember Fundraising

Movember is usually famous for being an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues. Will a pastor engage into it and changed it to serve the children in need?

My wife suggested it. She didn’t tell me to do it; she just suggested it. At first, I thought it was a bit of a mad idea! However, I decided it was an idea worth following through with.

Movember is usually famous for being an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues. But I changed it a little.

Instead, I decided that I was going to grow, not just a moustache, but complete facial hair for the whole month of November to raise money for Jerry’s Fund, which is a fund run by Adventist Community Services, Dublin (www.acsdublin.org) to support homeless and disadvantaged children in the Dublin area.

Now, growing facial hair may not be a big thing to any other male adult, but aged 43 years old, I had never in my entire life done it. I didn’t even know if I could grow facial hair.

And what an experience it was! I can’t say that I liked growing facial hair at all. I didn’t like the itchiness or the fact that people kept telling me “you look more mature”! So, I’ll probably never do it again, although I’m glad I did it, because doing something for others is at the heart of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Anyway, thanks to a Go Fund Me campaign, daily video uploads to my Facebook page and YouTube channel, I was able to raise a total of €859, which was really amazing. Thank you to everyone who gave – ACS Dublin and the kids this money will go to help are really thankful.
